About

I like to describe Susiemaroon as an independent eco-label. The name of the label came about way before the actual label… A story about song writing and lack of words could be told - but I’ll just go off on a tangent and tell you about that time I dropped a melon onto a railway track when I was six. I never got over that… So lets just say I acquired the name Susiemaroon and many moons later I began Susiemaroon the label…

At Susiemaroon we try hard to source ecologically and ethically sound materials from ethical companies to produce all of the pieces in our collections. We think it is important to give the customer as much information as possible so here’s some information about the businesses and materials that we deal with…

Vintage
Vintage fabrics are picked up through second hand shops and house clearances.  Each fabric is available in limited quantities and so may be different from the styles you see on the site.

Organic fabric
Agrocel who hold both the Fairtrade and SKAL stamp of approval produce the organic fabric used for our collection.  The original cotton seed is not genetically modified and farmed without pesticides or fertilizers.  The final fabric is dyed with non-azo dyes.

Leather
We source all of our leather from a family run Scottish tannery who specialise in tanning Wild deerskin.  The skins are sourced from Scottish gamedealers who are closely monitored by the Deer Commision Scotland.  The hides would otherwise discarded as a by-product of the venison industry and sent to landfill.

Embroidery
The digital embroidery is executed by a cottage industry embroidery business based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Inks and paper
We use a UK based ‘environmentally neutral’ printer who specialises in the use of vegetable based, mineral oil free inks, FCS certified and recycled paper.  Further still the company favours water-based solvents and constantly monitor energy consumption.
