Boutique, craft fair, five-and-dime, mart…..whatever you want to call it, the MarchéMarché bazaar brings you all the affordable quintessential treats and trinkets you can’t live without. Cunningly devised by Edinburgh’s finest creative trio Ruth Moir – the brains behind your favourite watering hole and listening post The Bowery, together with the creative input from Edinburgh based embroidery revolutionist Susie Brown of Susiemaroon (thats me) and tip-top kitsch crafter Kirsty Anderson of Wooden Tree.
MarchéMarché debut on Saturday 24th October 2009 from 12noon-6pm offers an alternative to the normal head-throbbing, hair pulling trials of high street shopping showcasing eye-popping design, fantastical craftwork and re-worked vintage delights from your granny’s linen cupboard this is one un-missable chance to shop your socks off… MarchéMarché is the most exciting market Edinburgh has ever seen. Far from your standard table trawling twee craft affair, which makes you flail your arms, yelp and run in the opposite direction, MarchéMarché oozes pizzazz.
In fact, just in case shopping isn’t your thing we are bringing in the Cocktail shakers and martini glasses to construct just a few of the best classic cocktails fit for all those Audrey Hepburn’s and Humphrey Bogart’s out there. Tea trolley’s stacked with cupcakes, music from Edinburgh’s finest local music scene stalwart and serial blogger Song by Toad, a chance to make your own creations in the MarchéMarché minimart workshops. Slip on those glad-rags and make a day of it…

I know its a little soon to be posting more news… I mean you guys might explode if you take in too much information in one go… thing is, I might explode if I don’t share this little beauty with you. I mean who knew so much could happen inside an old wardrobe (leaving aside The Lion and the witches closet of course). Come on and put your hands together for FOUND’s latest creation, cybraphon. Move aside Pet Shop Boys…
If you want to see this baby live in action it will be robotic-ing all the way through August in its temporary new home, Inspace. The only gallery in Edinburgh where you can boogy the day away with everybody’s favourite musical wardrobe.
Cybraphon we loooove you….

Many moons ago I went to Art School with a clever little chap called Darren Wilson. He’s the brains behind SEEDBOMB… You guys have absolutely no excuse to refrain from buying these unusually constructive bombs. Can you think of a better way to get your little soldiers interested in the environment?
… and if you live in Edinburgh don’t be frightened if you come across me dressed in camouflage tossing my grenades (Seedbombs, not real of course) around the city. Aaah, the world would be a happier place if the worlds military forces used these little babies as their main weapon. We can always dream…

Whip out those old address books, Susiemaroon has now moved… For those of you using the old faithful pen and paper - its true, they still exist - I must apologise for my itchy feet over the past year. I have had a big part in ruining the ‘S’ section in your little books. Scribbles all over the page? I am truly sorry. I personally adopted the regular use of a pencil when entering details in my little black book for a while. My mild obsessive compulsive tendencies made me. These days I try to tell myself that scribbles give character to the little raggady fella’… I have recently started to realise that I am a bit of a paradox, what with my hoarding tendancies, love of junk shops (shops which I’m sure would prefer to be referred to as antique shops) and over the top desire to have everything in its place. Does that just make me a perfectly balanced human being? I hope so…
… anyway, I went off on a tangent… the NEW Susiemaroon studio address is…
SUSIEMAROON • 37 WAVERLEY PLACE • EDINBURGH • EH7 5SA

Aaw shucks…
It’s going to be a busy couple of months here at Susiemaroon… my new studio is set to be my old studio. I’m packing my handkerchief on a stick (I really wish it was going to be that easy) and trundling over town to Edinburgh’s East side. It’s kind of dangerous over there. Edgy some might say… well, as edgy as you get in Edinburgh!
April will also see Susiemaroon partnering up with the top gals from the NOT ON THE HIGH STREET department store to launch the online Susiemaroon boutique. Keep your eyes peeled…ears flapping… fingers poised for news of the launch date here.
Here’s some rather flattering excerpts from some rather lovely journalists (aaw shucks, thanks you guys…) to get those juices flowing!
Scotland on Sunday: “…Susie’s design skills are just as sharp as her ethical point of view…its definitely a site to bookmark for future purchases…”
“…Classy eco-friendly greeting cards that stand out from the crowd for all the right reasons…”
Eco Home and Garden: “…with designs like these, who could resist splashing out on something a little different…”
Sunday Times: Melinda Ashton Turner features Susiemaroon ‘modern doily’ as one of the best new designs for your home
tenddelacreme.com ‘Currently Obsessed With’: “…these magnificent tool-inspired belts by independent eco-label susiemaroon definitely say something about the woman wearing them. (I was thinking something along the lines of, “I can fix a sink in a pair of stilettos faster than you can say boo,” or “If you think I’m fierce in a pair of 3″ heels, you should see me work a 3/4″ Ryobi power drill.”)…”
Trendhunder Magazine: “…in addition to being ultra chic, the line is low on the cruelty factor as it gets its leather from Scottish Venison Dealers. Now even the most stylish woman can rock a tool belt and still look hot and feel eco-chic!”
Scotland on Sunday: “…If you’re looking for a new floor covering, leather may not be your first choice but a new collaboration between Susiemaroon and respected homeware retailer Pure Design will ensure it is something seen on all of the most style-conscious floors…”
The Scotsman Magazine Green Issue: “…Susiemaroon’s socially conscious accessories are as far from scratchy hemp trousers and ethnic objets d’art as you can get…”
